LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A popular experience that has drawn film fans in Los Angeles and New York City is now making its way to the entertainment capital of the world, offering Las Vegans a way to not only watch cinematic classics – but taste them as well.

Fork n’ Film is described as an immersive culinary experience. It’s an experience that has drawn much attention from cinephiles and foodies across major U.S. cities. The concept is simple: recreate dishes from iconic films and serve them as they appear onscreen. In practice, Fork n’ Film focuses on nostalgia, triggering a person’s core memories through cinema and food. For co-founder Francesca Duncan, the idea stemmed from a 1996 classic and chocolate cake seen within.

“We came up with this idea when we were watching Matilda,” Duncan said. “There is this scene where he was eating the chocolate cake, and even though it’s supposed to be a gross scene, when I was little, I was like, this cake looks so good.”

That idea led to an investigation into all things food in film. For co-founder Nicholas Houston, the choice of what movies feature in Fork n’ Film experiences comes down to three elements.

“It has to taste good,” Houston said.

The second element is the aesthetic. The duo focuses on what foods can sync up with the images onscreen at Fork n’ Film experiences, eliciting that irresistible TikTok or Instagram-worthy shot from those in attendance.

The final element is a bit of playfulness and interaction.

“Our parents always told us, don’t play with your food, but we want you to play with your food,” Houston said, adding that they strive to make each course as fun as possible.

The combination has created a demand for Fork n’ Film in cities across the U.S., as tickets are highly sought after. The co-founders said that tickets often sell out within seconds of their release. That success brought the experience to Las Vegas, a city Duncan said is synonymous with fun.

Initially, the Pixar film “Ratatouille” will be the culinary focus of Fork n’ Film. From August through mid-September, the adventures of Remy and Linguini will be featured before making way for the spooky season and Halloween favorites like “Hocus Pocus” and “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” Houston said that the running schedule will include daily experiences in Las Vegas.

The journey of creating Fork n’ Film has the co-founders watching every film with food on their minds and looking to branch out from fan-favorite animated films.

“We cannot watch a movie without thinking, oh my gosh, this would be amazing for Fork n’ Film,” Duncan said. “We’re really trying to work our way […] into the live-action films or comedies. We did, White Chicks, Mean Girls, things like that.”

Aiming to be inclusive, the carefully curated menu is built to be not only delicious but accommodating to those with dietary restrictions or who follow vegan or vegetarian guidelines.

Fork n’ Film will take place at District North in Las Vegas inside of a speakeasy. Tickets for the event go on sale at 3 p.m. on July 19 on the event’s website. Those who are interested in attending are advised to prepare, as tickets are expected to go fast if the two-month sellout in Los Angeles is any indication.

“Set your alarms and have your laptops and your phones charged and open because the tickets go literally within seconds,” Duncan said.
