LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Officials announced Wednesday that Lenny Kravitz is set for a Las Vegas residency in August.
The iconic star will return to Las Vegas in August at Dolby Live at Park MGM on the world-famous Las Vegas Strip. Kravitz said he is excited to take the stage following up on a previous run of shows at the venue that he described as pleasantly surprising.
“I had a great time,” Kravitz said. “It’s something that I’d never done—a residency in Vegas—and I wasn’t sure what to expect, what the vibe was going to be and I was pleasantly surprised. It was a beautiful celebration every night.”
A celebration, Kravitz said, tied to his new effort entitled “Blue Electric Light.” That album features songs that explored the superstar’s teenage years, in two cases … literally. Two tracks were written by Kravitz when he was in high school.
“‘Blue Electric Light‘ is somewhat the record I would have put out if I had gotten a record deal in high school,” he said. “The production value, the songs—it’s very close to what I was doing in high school, and in the case of those two songs, exactly the same thing I was doing in high school.”
Kravitz described the process of recording “Blue Electric Light,” which included the use of instruments he had access to as a youth. The star said it was a connection that kept him moving forward while still looking back. The same could be said for Kravitz’s mega-hit “Are You Gonna Go My Way,” which will reach its 32nd anniversary in 2025. The superstar remembered the process of writing the hit track, which he said took just five minutes.
“The riff [came first,]” Kravitz recalled. “Myself and Craig Ross, my guitarist and my partner … some things are just like a bolt.”
He recounted recording the iconic hit within 15 minutes before his studio session was over for the day, before taking the track home on cassette tape and coming up with the lyrics.
“I had no idea how important this song was going to be for me,” he said. In part, “Are You Gonna Go My Way” was responsible for reconnecting Kravitz with a rock star he had a forgotten tie with, Guns N’ Roses guitarist Slash.
“I went to American Music Awards … and I was sitting in my seat in the audience, and Guns N’ Roses were sitting in front of me,” he remembered. “I kept looking at this guy and I was like, ‘I know this guy.’”
When Slash and Kravitz began talking, it didn’t take long for them to make the connection.
“We started talking, … ‘Did you go to Beverly?’ We both went to Beverly Hills High School, believe it or not,” Kravitz said, adding that the two would eventually work together on music.
Slash wasn’t the only iconic musician Kravitz worked with. There have long been rumors of a collaboration between Kravitz and “His Royal Badness,” Prince. He confirmed that the urban legend is actually true, although he refused to confirm which song on which the two had performed.
“There’s several things,” Kravitz said. “It’s really amazing that no one’s figured this out yet. It’s really obvious—but I guess it’s only obvious to me because I know.”
Kravitz’s 12th studio album, “Blue Electric Light,” is on sale and streaming on all digital platforms. Pre-sale tickets are available now through the Citi Entertainment program, while fan pre-sale tickets will be available on Thursday at 10 a.m. The general public on-sale is set for Saturday at 10 a.m. via Ticketmaster.
